Pens I Use Write Now
Nothing like a good pun on a Monday, I always say. Just kidding. I rarely say that. But this one felt write. Hahhh. Ok, sorry. Now to the point…
I use a variety of notebooks and writing tools to document my thoughts, calendar events and activities.
Digital tools for managing information like Notion and Google Cal are super fun (and necessary at times). But at heart, I am an analog gal. Something about putting pen to paper does it for me in a way that text on a screen never will.
Here are love letters to the pens and markers I’m crushin’ on right now.
Pentel Energel Clena 0.3
The NBT to my Pilot Vanishing Point with the Extra Fine Nib. My story has been 0.7 > 0.5 > 0.4 > 0.3 (i.e. bold to fine). I tend to write fairly small so having a finer, needle tip pen like the Clena in 0.3 in my pouch makes a huge difference in making my handwriting be its best self. Sometimes having a 0.4 or 0.5 feels better, but for the most part right now the 0.3 has my heart.
Tombow Fudenosuke Pens
The perfect, compact brush pen for when I want a little extra flair on my page. I use this pen to callout important headings on my pages. They write like an absolute dream on 52gsm Tomoe River Paper (my fave). I do not love it on more toothy paper where ink tends to feather like Moawk 80#, just below standard construction paper weight. I prefer the hard tip for daily use, as it works well with smaller, more precise handwriting. When I do envelopes for wedding invites, I like to use the soft tip for recipients’ names in larger writing, and the hard tip for the addresses.
Tombow Dual Brush Pens
The most luscious range of colors in brush marker form on one end, with a 0.5 bullet tip on the other end. My die-hards right now: 493 (Reflex Blue), 533 (Peacock Blue), 772 (Blush) and N95 (Cool Gray 1).
See you next Monday.
